Chairman Wontumi exposed for faking stroke
The Member of Parliament for Garu, Dr Thomas Anabah, has strongly criticized the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, accusing him of feigning illness to evade justice.
Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana and monitored, Dr Anabah dismissed claims that Wontumi had suffered a stroke following his recent arrest.
“Wontumi has proven to be someone who believes the country belongs to him. Now, after a common arrest, he’s suddenly limping. He hasn’t seen anything yet,” Dr Anabah said, insisting that the NPP regional chairman must be held accountable for his alleged illegal mining activities and environmental destruction.
Images from Wontumi’s mining sites, which have sparked public outrage, were described by Dr Anabah as clear evidence of “environmental devastation,” reducing forests to the level of the Sahara.
He emphasised that such acts must not be overlooked simply because of political influence.
The Garu MP further warned against behind-the-scenes political negotiations aimed at shielding Wontumi.
“There shouldn’t be any sympathy. There is no stroke in him. He’s just pretending,” he claimed, referencing public appearances where Wontumi appeared physically well shortly after his alleged hospital admission.
He concluded by urging law enforcement agencies to take legal action and retrieve funds from Wontumi if corruption or illegal gains are proven against him.
“Let’s take him to court and retrieve the money. We need that money,” he added.
