Contest For NPP Women’s Organiser: New face emerges
Former Member of Parliament for Evalue-Ajomoro-Gwira in the Western Region, Catherine Abelema Afeku, has officially declared her intention to contest for the position of National Women’s Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the party’s next national officers’ election.
She believes the party needs a dynamic, proactive, and tested woman to lead the women’s wing and help the NPP return to power in 2028.
Madam Afeku made the announcement at a special Mother’s Day celebration she organised for hundreds of women, including queen mothers, women groups, and members of the NPP women’s wing in her constituency.
She appealed to party executives and activists across all levels to support her bid, promising to work hard with the next national executives if elected.
She called on the chiefs and people of Nzema and the Western Region to support her with prayers, stressing that she is currently the only candidate from both the Western and Western North Regions contesting for the position.
“The best comes from the West,” she said, expressing confidence that she will emerge as the next National Women’s Organiser to help secure victory for the NPP in 2028.
A cross-section of women at the event endorsed her candidacy, stating that Madam Afeku has the qualities needed to unite women in the party from the grassroots to the national level.
They believe she stands out among other contenders and is capable of helping the party function effectively ahead of the next general election.
Madam Afeku began her political career in the early 2000s during President John Agyekum Kufuor’s administration, serving as a Government Spokesperson on Infrastructure.
She was MP for Evalue-Ajomoro-Gwira from 2008 to 2012 and from 2016 to 2020. She served as Minister of Tourism from February 2017 to February 2019 under President Nana Akufo-Addo.
