Cyber Security flags these 48 Loan Apps as dangerous

The Cyber Security Authority (CSA) has raised alarm about 48 mobile loan apps that are causing serious problems for Ghanaians. These apps, according to the CSA, are behind a sharp increase in cases of cyberbullying and violations of people’s privacy. They have warned the public to stay away from these platforms because most of them are not properly regulated.

Between January and May 2025, the CSA received 377 complaints from people who said they were bullied online after using digital loan apps. This number is significantly higher than the 228 cases reported throughout the entire year of 2024.

The CSA revealed that many of these apps are not registered with the Bank of Ghana or the Data Protection Commission. They are said to give out small loans to people without proper agreements and later use harsh methods to collect the money. Some victims say the app operators go through their phones, take private pictures, and access contact lists. These details are then used to embarrass the victims publicly so they feel pressured to repay.

Some of the apps that have been named by the CSA include Miniloan, Devtage Loan, mix loan, ozzy money-cash, Plus Cash Arrow, Cash Arrow, FundsCredit, Lever Credit, Getloan, Upper Loan, Kcash, Bestloan, Gcash, DaraLoan, Loanbase, Taploan, Gh Loans, Sune Loans, Urgent money, Sparkloan, Skyloan, Loancloudgh, and Pea Money, among several others.

“These apps operate without legal backing and often disregard consumer protection laws. Engaging with them exposes users to serious risks, including data breaches, harassment, and financial loss,” the CSA stated.

The Authority is calling on everyone to be careful when dealing with digital loan apps. They advise Ghanaians to make sure any app or service they want to use is officially registered and recognised by the right government agencies. If anyone faces any form of abuse or sees something suspicious, they should quickly report it using the CSA’s 24/7 cyber incident response platform.

In these times when many people turn to quick online loans to solve urgent financial problems, the CSA is reminding the public to think twice. A quick loan today could turn into a serious problem tomorrow if the platform is not trustworthy.
