Former Asante Kotoko board chairman, Hebert Mensah, has lauded Ernst Middendorp, a former coach of the club, as one of the finest coaches in Ghana football history.
Mensah expressed his admiration for German coach’s technical prowess, highlighting him as a standout figure who made a significant impact during his tenure at Asante Kotoko.
Describing Middendorp as unparalleled in his approach, Mensah emphasized the coach’s dedication to scouting talent from grassroots levels, a quality that set him apart from others.
Herbert Mensah revealed the Ernst Middendorp had initiated a structure that recruited talented players from rural areas whom they paid their fees and put them into schools while training them after school in football.
The former Kotoko chairman said this system had served the club well even after he and Middendorp had left the club.
“In Kotoko, we got someone I still think is one of the best coaches that Ghana has ever had. Ernest Middensorp. You can’t bring Otto Addo and the guys anywhere close to him,” Herbert said on the sidelines of the African Games.
“He went to the schools and villages. He Identifies talents he says we don’t have their type in Europe.”
