EXCLUSIVE: Rerun of Ablekuma North elections set
The Electoral Commission of Ghana has announced that a rerun of the parliamentary elections in the Ablekuma North constituency will take place on Friday, July 11, 2025. This decision follows months of delay in declaring a winner from the 2024 general elections, leaving the constituency without parliamentary representation.

In a press statement released on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, the EC explained that the rerun will be held in 19 polling stations. This comes after it was discovered that results from these stations had not been verified by their respective Presiding Officers.
“After extensive deliberations, the Commission informed the Political Parties that it would proceed to rerun the election in 19 out of the 37 Polling Stations,” the statement read.
The Commission noted that while there had been initial calls to rerun the election in all 37 polling stations, it later received verification and confirmation from Presiding Officers for 18 of them. As a result, those 18 polling stations will not be part of the rerun.
“It is instructive to note that the Commission was able to secure the Presiding Officers’ verification and confirmation for 18 scanned Polling Station results—Agents of both parties also approved these results. Therefore, no rerun will be held in those polling stations,” the statement added.
The EC has requested police presence to ensure the rerun is conducted peacefully.
The parliamentary race in Ablekuma North remains a contest between Ewurabena Aubynn of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Nana Akua Afriyie of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Past attempts to collate and declare results were marred by violence, making security and transparency key priorities for the upcoming vote.
