Fuel prices to go up from TODAY

Ghanaians should brace for a rise in fuel prices starting Today, July 1, 2025, according to new projections by the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC).

In what would be the first increase since February this year, COMAC estimates that petrol prices could go up by about 2 percent, diesel by 5 percent, and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) by 1 percent.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra, the Chief Executive Officer of the Chamber, Dr. Riverson Oppong, revealed that the expected price hikes come even before any adjustments from the now-suspended amended Energy Sector Levy.

“Even before the implementation of the amended Energy Sector Levy which has been suspended, our projections indicate that pump prices may be going up,” he stated.

He further explained that the increase is based on various factors, including international market trends and computations from the National Petroleum Authority’s (NPA) price build-up structure.

“I can say petrol is likely to go up by 2 percent, LPG may witness a little above 1 percent and diesel will likely increase by 5 percent. This is after taking all factors into consideration, including NPA price build-ups,” Dr. Oppong added.

Meanwhile, COMAC is also calling for a broader review of regulations governing Ghana’s petroleum downstream sector. The Chamber believes such a move will help ensure more efficient and cost-effective operations for industry players while maintaining price stability for consumers.

As fuel price changes take effect every two weeks under the deregulated pricing system, the anticipated hikes will reflect at pumps during the first pricing window of July, beginning July 1.

COMAC’s announcement is likely to trigger concern among consumers and transport operators, especially as the cost of living remains a major issue nationwide.
