Ghanaians will never forgive NPP if they refuse to rescue them from NDC – Dr. Fokuo

A lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Dr. Solomon Fokuo, has taken a strong stance against the recent 14.75% increase in electricity tariffs announced by the NDC government, labelling the move as a “Double Punishment” levy.

According to Dr. Fokuo, Ghanaians are already grappling with frequent power outages, and the added cost of electricity only worsens their financial burden.

He argues that this price hike is not just unjustified—it’s a form of double suffering.

“Ghanaians are facing a double burden of increased electricity costs and persistent power outages,” he said, emphasizing how the situation is compounding the economic hardship for ordinary citizens.

The lecturer accused the government of mismanaging the power sector, suggesting that the extra charges are essentially penalties for its own failings.

“The levy is unfair, as citizens are paying for the government’s perceived incompetence in managing the power sector,” he stated.

Dr. Fokuo pointed to what he described as a growing problem: the replacement of experienced electricians with unqualified individuals, which he believes is undermining the efficiency and reliability of the entire sector.

He issued a stern warning to the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), saying they will face serious political consequences if they fail to step in and address the problem.

“Ghanaians will never forgive NPP if they refuse to rescue them,” Dr. Fokuo cautioned.

The price hike has sparked public outrage, with many questioning the timing and necessity of the increase amid ongoing power instability.
