Gospel musician Philipa Baafi opens up on campaigning for NPP

Philipa Baafi has clarified that she did not actively campaign for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) before the 2008 General elections.

Although her song “Go High” was famously adopted as the official campaign anthem by then Presidential candidate Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo during his election campaign.

Baafi explained that the song was not originally composed for the NPP, as some mistakenly believed.

Instead, it conveyed a message of victory, which resonated with the NPP and led to their decision to use it.

She further noted that despite the song not being originally intended for political use, the NPP approached her, obtained the rights to use the song, and compensated her accordingly.

She said: “I did not do that song for the NPP. It is a song that touched on victory and the party loved it so they hopped on it to use for their campaign and they paid for copyrights.
