“The door are wide open” – Chelsea defender closer than ever to exit after losing his place in the team

Thiago Silva’s return to Brazil this summer has long seemed likely, and it now seems like an inevitability.

The defender’s contract expires this summer, and after some great years at Chelsea, the last 6 months saw his performances start to decline. He’s now not getting into the team at all, even with Benoit Badiashile, Levi Colwill and Wesley Fofana still all out injured.

The time seems right from all sides for him to make a long-awaited return to his home country. A natural landing spot would be Fluminense, where he made his first steps in football, and where he still has many friends, including club director Fred.

He spoke to ESPN Brazil about bringing Silva back to where it all began:

“Thiago Silva has been a dream of ours for a long time, the president talks to him almost every week. Thiago has a contract in England, we’re rooting for him, I personally am a friend of his, I’m a big fan of his character, he deserves all the best. He knows that here the doors are wide open for him to return.”

There is still no real talk of a new contract at Chelsea, so we can only conclude that the iconic defender’s run with the Blues is coming to an end.
