He is not a scammer – Watch as Shatta Wale shed tears for Kofi Boat
Ghanaian dancehall musician, Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, has reacted emotionally to the arrest of businessman Kofi Boat by the FBI over an alleged $100 million fraud scheme.
On June 18, 2025, several media outlets reported that Kofi Boat, along with two others identified as Agony and a third unnamed accomplice, had been arrested by the FBI in connection with a large-scale fraudulent operation.
In response to the development, Shatta Wale took to Facebook Live on June 19, where he passionately defended Kofi Boat, whom he referred to as his “godfather.” The musician, visibly distressed and in tears during the broadcast, strongly rejected the fraud accusations.
Shatta Wale insisted that Kofi Boat is not involved in any scam, suggesting instead that the controversy stemmed from a business deal that did not go as planned.
“God, if you are there, make people know that Kofi Boat is not a scammer. Herh! Kofi Boat. Mama Joyce, I make sorry. I feel bad charlie. Sake of Kofi, I no dey sleep,” he said emotionally in pidgin.
He further expressed deep concern for Kofi Boat’s wife and children, saying the situation is taking a heavy emotional toll on him. He said he has been imagining the pain the family is going through and described the accusations as unfair.
“I dey picture Kofi Boat in kiddies and I no dey fit. Who told you Kofi Boat is a scammer? It is just a business that went wrong. What do you mean? Do you mean that Kofi Boat will sit behind a computer and browse?” he questioned.
Shatta Wale also used the opportunity to reflect on his personal experiences, noting that such situations are why he avoids friendships and remains cautious in his dealings.
“But that is how the world is. If you don’t take care, you can do one wrong business; that is why I am careful. That is why I don’t make friends anymore,” he added.
The FBI’s operation, which reportedly links the arrested individuals to a $100 million fraud case, has sparked widespread attention and speculation. However, Shatta Wale’s passionate defense of Kofi Boat highlights the emotional impact the situation is having on those close to the businessman. As investigations continue, many await clarity on the allegations and the outcome of the case.
