He is not sick – Tanko Computer exposes Ken Ofori-Atta
The Deputy National Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Sofo Tanko Rashid Computer, has accused former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta of pretending to be sick just to avoid facing the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
Speaking on TV3’s New Day show hosted by Roland Walker, Dr. Tanko claimed Ofori-Atta is only pretending to be unwell to escape accountability.
“Ken Ofori-Atta is not sick. He’s strong and healthy. He’s just playing hide and seek,” Dr. Tanko alleged. “He knows the weight of the charges being investigated, and his lawyers have advised him to dodge.”
He said the former minister’s request for a virtual interrogation instead of appearing in person shows he is trying to run away from the law.
“This is their strategy, but it won’t help anyone,” he stressed.
OSP Declares Ofori-Atta Wanted Again
Dr. Tanko’s comments come just after the OSP declared Ken Ofori-Atta wanted for a second time. This follows his failure to appear before the OSP on Monday, June 2, 2025, despite earlier promises to cooperate.
Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng has described Ofori-Atta as a fugitive and is taking steps to extradite him. A formal request has been made for an INTERPOL Red Notice to help track and arrest him globally.
This is the second time Ofori-Atta has been declared wanted. The first time was earlier in the year, but his name was removed in February 2025 after he promised to return to Ghana voluntarily in May.
Dr. Tanko Hails Mahama’s Anti-Corruption Efforts
During the same interview, Dr. Tanko praised President John Dramani Mahama for his strong stance against corruption. He said the Mahama administration is focused on discipline and accountability in public office.
“President Mahama is determined to build a better Ghana, free from corruption. He’s recovering stolen state money and has warned all appointees not to touch public funds,” he said. “Almost six months in office, and not one corruption scandal.”
He called on Ghanaians and Ofori-Atta’s legal team to support President Mahama’s Reset Ghana agenda, which he believes is restoring trust and renewing the country.
Who Is Ken Ofori-Atta?
Ken Ofori-Atta served as Ghana’s Finance Minister from 2017 to 2024 under President Nana Akufo-Addo. He was behind major policies like the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme and IMF negotiations. But his time in office was also marked by rising public debt and allegations of financial mismanagement.
Now, the OSP is investigating him for several offences, including breaking procurement laws and misusing public funds—especially relating to the Ghana Revenue Authority’s Tax Refund Account.
His lawyers say he is currently unwell and scheduled for a medical operation, which is why he cannot return to Ghana now.
