HOT AUDIO: EOCO subjected Wontumi to ill-treatment, they nearly killed him
The Ashanti Regional Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Yandoh, has accused the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) of treating NPP Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako—also known as Chairman Wontumi—harshly during his detention.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme, Yandoh said Wontumi was deeply affected after spending six days in EOCO custody.
“He was shaking and couldn’t even sit well. He hasn’t shared everything he went through, but a lot has changed about him,” he said.
Yandoh also claimed that Wontumi went without food the entire time because he feared he might be poisoned. “For six days, he didn’t eat. He said the person who brought the food had his face covered, so he didn’t trust it,” Yandoh explained.
He added that Wontumi was kept in a cramped space and treated poorly, describing EOCO’s actions as “mafia tactics.”
“They treated him like a criminal and wanted to break him. But Wontumi is a clean man and answered all their questions because he has nothing to hide,” he said.
Yandoh said even though Wontumi smiled and waved to people after his release, he was still in pain. “He smiled for the cameras, but I was with him, and I saw how he was limping. He just tried to look strong,” he added.
Wontumi was granted bail after meeting GH₵50 million with two sureties to be justified. Many in the NPP say the bail conditions were too harsh and politically motivated.
Despite all that happened, Yandoh said Wontumi is still willing to cooperate with investigations. “He is innocent and has no fear,” he stressed.
