Former Deputy Minister Joseph Yammin has revealed how Chinese the pretty ‘galamsey’ kingpin Aisha Huang scammed National Security officials in the Ashanti Region and used them for her operations.
Aisha Huang during the week has been in the news after she was re-arrested in the country for engaging in illegal mining despite reports indicating she was deported in 2019
Revealing how Aisha Huang scammed him, Mr. Joseph Yammin who was the then Deputy Ashanti Regional minister when the incident happened, said he was once confronted in his office by a man who gave him a hint that some Chinese nationals were dealing in ammunitions, narcotics and also mining illegally in the country’s forest.
He continued that, the same man again visited him in his office another time and provided him with documents and pictures to confirm that, indeed the information he gave was accurate.
“The next time he was coming, he came with document, books, pictures, and location of the site where they were operating”, Yammin disclosed on live radio
Following the numerous complaints, Yammin revealed that he had to put together the security team including the BNI now NIBboss, the military, the police commander and the immigration officer in the region.
“At the time, we needed to act fast, we didn’t have to waste time. They made us believe that everything was being carried to the site. So the next time when we were about to carry out the operation the Ghanaian came with a Chinese lady and told me the lady was with the group so she was more or less an informant. That was Aisha Huang”, he narrated.
According to him, Aisha Huang made them believe that all equipment at the site of the other Chinese nationals were filled with narcotics and other illegal items.
“We had various teams, the one assigned to the galamsey site and one to their house. It was a Rambo style operation in the year 2015 around January”, Mr Joseph Yammin told Kwame Tanko on Kumasi-based Angel FM in an interview monitored by MyNewsGH.com.
“So we did a perfect exercise, we rounded up the house but they couldn’t show us the site they claimed belonged to the other Chinese. They (Aisha Huang and her accomplice) together with the military roamed in the bush from 12 am till 4 am but couldn’t find the site”. He added
Joseph Yammin also noted that Aisha Huang made him understand that the Chinese were dealing in counterfeit money but after breaking into their safes they only got 2 GHC 5 notes with a Vodafone credit worth GHC10
He disclosed further that at that time, the plan of Aisha Huang and her group was that, after you had arrested other Chinese, then they will go and take over their sites, the equipment, and everything.
“So they used us to do that exercise. And that is why they roamed around with the soldiers and never took them to the mining sites. It was after arresting the other Chinese that was when they gave us the modus operandi of who that lady is. We found out it was her usual movement. She could bring a Chinese in Ghana, help them acquire mining concessions and still mine on the same concession by calling for their arrest”. He revealed.
