If you want power, Ghanaians say it is only Kennedy Agyapong they will vote for – Ken tells NPP

The 2024 presidential aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Agyapong, has dominated social media conversations over the weekend after a video surfaced showing him engaging with a group believed to be his supporters. In the video, he appeared to be positioning himself as the party’s potential flagbearer for the 2028 elections.

In the footage, Kennedy Agyapong made comments suggesting that the church played a role in voting against the NPP’s 2024 flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, possibly due to religious reasons, and urged his audience to back him instead.

“In this church we are in, they spoke. I am speaking in parables. The church spoke but we did not listen and we have seen what has happened,” he said.

He further added, “If they want power, Ghanaians say it is only Kennedy Agyapong they will vote for.”

“Do you want to remain home for another 4 years or 8 years? Are you ready for that? Let us listen to what the people are saying. Let us listen to what Ghanaians are saying,” he stated.

However, these comments have sparked widespread backlash, with many social media users criticising Kennedy Agyapong and accusing him of hypocrisy.

Some have alleged that his actions and utterances ahead of the 2024 elections undermined Dr Bawumia and the party’s chances at the polls.

In the midst of the current tensions within the NPP, several old videos have resurfaced showing Kennedy Agyapong making statements that appeared critical of the party. These videos are now being cited by critics as evidence of his role in the NPP’s 2024 electoral defeat.

In one of the videos, Kennedy was seen campaigning in a tone that many interpret as being against his own party.

He said; “The situation we are in now, Ghanaians don’t need change; change needs Ghanaians. Yes, Ghanaians don’t need change, change needs us.”

In another interview with KSM, he called for a change in government, stating; “It means that we’ve gone past change. The situation is worse that the change itself is now saying that please come and let me change you.”

These videos have reignited debates about his loyalty to the NPP and whether he can be trusted to lead the party in future elections.
