I’m looking for Leon – Ghanaian woman hunts Chinese lover who impregnated her

Selina Adu Gyamfi, a young woman from Abodom in the Asante Bekwai Municipality of the Ashanti Region, has accused her former Chinese lover, identified only as Leon, of abandoning her after allegedly getting her pregnant.

Speaking on Nhyira FM’s social programme, Selina shared her story, explaining that she met Leon a few years ago in Bekwai while he was involved in illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey. According to her, their relationship grew over time, and during that period, Leon regularly supported her financially.

“My issue is that some Chinese people came to Abodom, Asante Bekwai, for galamsey. I had a relationship with one of them called Leon. When they were leaving, I didn’t know I was pregnant,” she explained.

Selina said she trusted Leon deeply because he had promised to be with her and often showed affection. She said he would give her between GH¢500 and GH¢1,000 regularly, which strengthened her belief that he truly cared for her.

“He told me he loved me. He used to give me 1,000 cedis a week or sometimes 500 cedis every three days,” she recalled.

However, her world turned upside down when Leon and his fellow Chinese miners left Bekwai. It was only two months after their departure that Selina discovered she was pregnant. She contacted Leon to inform him, and at first, he seemed happy with the news.

“I called to inform him I was pregnant and he said he liked it but I don’t know what people told him; he started avoiding me and eventually blacklisted me,” she said.

Selina, frustrated and feeling abandoned, reported the situation to the police. Leon was eventually arrested, but she says he was released shortly after and has since disappeared.

“Leon was good to me while we were together, but now I’m struggling to take care of the child alone. I don’t know where he is,” she lamented.

Now left to care for the child on her own, Selina is appealing to the public and the authorities to help her find Leon. She says she is overwhelmed by the responsibility and just wants support in raising the child.

Her story has drawn sympathy and concern from listeners, many of whom are calling on the appropriate state agencies to intervene and ensure Leon takes responsibility for his actions.
