Keep ‘overreaching’ OSP in check – Former Anyaa-Sowutuom MP
Former Member of Parliament for Anyaa-Sowutuom, Dickson Adomako Kissi, has stated that the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) must be subjected to oversight.
He raised concerns about the OSP’s handling of the Interpol Red Notice issued for former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, describing it as an overreach of authority.
Speaking on Channel One on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, Adomako Kissi said the OSP’s actions could set a bad precedent if not checked, warning that the office could be misused for personal or political vendettas.
“The Special Prosecutor is certainly overreaching. That’s my view,” he said. “And if you’re a prosecutor, you also need to be put in check. Maybe he needed to exhaust all possible avenues before issuing a Red Notice for Ofori-Atta.”
He questioned why the OSP did not consider less aggressive approaches, such as directly contacting the former minister or visiting him abroad, instead of declaring him wanted.
“In fact, what even prevents the prosecutor’s office from visiting Ofori-Atta? This is a high-profile case. If Nana Addo needs to be questioned, we would go to his residence out of respect. I think yes, Ken Ofori-Atta is being sought for supposed crimes, but who is checking the OSP when it becomes overzealous?” he asked.
His comments come after the OSP declared Ofori-Atta a wanted fugitive and requested an Interpol Red Notice following his failure to appear before the agency on a scheduled date.
