Ken Ofori-Atta suffering from ‘prostate cancer’ – United States’ Mayo Clinic reveals
A letter purportedly issued by the Mayo Clinic, a top-tier medical facility in the United States, has surfaced online confirming that former Ghanaian Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, has been diagnosed with cancer.
This development comes shortly after Ghana’s Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, held a press conference on Monday, June 2, 2025, during which he reiterated that Ken Ofori-Atta is a wanted fugitive.

At the briefing, the Special Prosecutor disclosed that lawyers for the former minister had informed his office that their client was suffering from cancer.
Despite this communication, Mr. Agyebeng stated that no official medical documentation had been submitted to verify Ofori-Atta’s condition.
However, not long after the press conference, a letter attributed to the Mayo Clinic began circulating on social media and in news reports. The letter appears to confirm Ofori-Atta’s illness and bears what looks like the official stamp of the medical institution.
The document was reportedly signed by Dr. Ahmed Abdalrhim, a physician from the Section of International Medicine at the Rochester-based facility. According to the contents of the letter, Ken Ofori-Atta has been diagnosed with prostate cancer.
“I am writing to inform you that Mr Ofori-Atta has undergone an MR-guided biopsy and has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. A surgical intervention has been deemed necessary, after the testing and MRI and biopsy procedures in March 2025, as I indicated in my February letter. This surgical procedure has been scheduled for June 13, with Dr Paras Shah of the Department of Urology… It is hoped that a closer date may open up,” the letter states.
It further explains that the former minister will not be able to return to Ghana immediately due to the need for post-surgery recovery.
“Following the procedure, Mr Ofori-Atta will require a recovery period before he is able to travel to his home country,” parts of the letter read.
This letter has intensified public debate surrounding Ofori-Atta’s legal troubles and his medical status. The timing of the surgery, set for June 13, 2025, and the details of his diagnosis may impact how the Office of the Special Prosecutor proceeds in its quest to bring the former minister before the law.
As of now, neither the Special Prosecutor’s office nor the Mayo Clinic has officially confirmed the authenticity of the widely circulated document.
However, its contents have already begun shaping public discourse, with many Ghanaians questioning whether Ofori-Atta’s medical situation might affect ongoing legal actions.
