Kennedy Agyapong in hot waters for waging ‘religious’ campaign against Bawumia

Former businessman and NPP flagbearer aspirant, Kennedy Agyapong, is facing backlash on social media over comments made in a viral video that many see as religiously insensitive towards Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the party’s 2024 presidential candidate.

In the video, Kennedy suggests that Christians did not vote for Bawumia in 2024 and urged supporters to choose him instead as flagbearer for 2028.

“You have heard it—Ghanaians say if you bring Ken Agyapong, they will vote for you. Do you want to wait another 4 or 8 years? Are you ready for that? Let’s listen to what Ghanaians are saying,” he told his supporters.

He hinted that the NPP lost because the church’s voice was ignored.
“The church spoke. In this church where we are, they spoke. I’m speaking in parables. The church spoke, but we didn’t listen, and now we see the result,” he said.

The remarks have been condemned as divisive. Many social media users say his tone promotes religious bias and threatens party unity.

One NPP supporter, Lambon Augustina, said: “Your attitude is what I hate. You couldn’t win your own constituency. Is Bawumia the reason we lost most parliamentary seats?”

Another user, Addo Frank, accused Kennedy of shifting focus from the government’s new D-levy to his own ambition.

Many also called him a hypocrite, reminding him of how he campaigned against his own party during the 2024 elections. Videos from that time have resurfaced, showing him criticizing the NPP.

In one clip, he said: “The situation we are in now, Ghanaians don’t need change; change needs Ghanaians.”

In an interview with KSM, he added: “The situation is so bad that change itself is now saying, please come and change me.”

Critics say those same comments were used by the NDC against the NPP, contributing to their 2024 defeat.
