Whether you like it or not, the Running Mate will be from Ashanti Region – NPP Youth Organizer
Salam Mustapha has disclosed which Region that the Running Mate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, will hail from.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has been given extra time by the party’s National Council to declare his Running Mate following his request for more time as he was expected to reveal the identity of this partner to the party yesterday.
“In line with our constitution, particularly about Article 13 (32) ‘the vice presidential candidate shall be a known and active member at least five years and shall be nominated by the presidential candidate at least 12 months before general elections when the party is not in government or the president is not the candidate.
“However, upon request from the presidential candidate that because his election was done on November 4, 2023, he needs a bit of time to continue with his consultation before he brings the proposed name for running mate to the National Council”, NPP General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, stated.
As the party awaits their Running Mate, Dr. Bawumia is however bombarded with names to consider for the slot.
Persons like the Energy Minister, Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema-Osei Opare, EPA Chief Executive, Henry Kwabena Kokofu among others have popped up on the list for consideration.
Tackling the subject on Peace FM’s”Kokrokoo” panel discussion programme Thursday morning, the NPP Youth Organizer hinted that the Running Mate will be chosen from the Ashanti Region.
“Obviously, the flagbearer is from the northern part of the country, so whether you like it or not, the Running Mate is going to come from the South. It’s automatic,” Salam told host Nana Yaw Kesseh.
He buttressed his point with the reason that the New Patriotic Party’s umbilical cord can be traced to the Ashanti Region, hence the critical role the Region plays in the party’s development.
“When we take the Ashanti Region, the soul and spirit and heart, in fact the legs and head, everything of the party is there,” he emphasized.
