Mahama running family and friends government – NPP’s Ahiagbah alleges
The Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has accused President John Dramani Mahama of operating a government dominated by family members, close allies, and personal associates.
Speaking on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo morning show on Friday, May 16, 2025, Mr. Ahiagbah argued that the very criticisms the National Democratic Congress (NDC) once levelled against former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administration are now reflected “and even amplified” under the current Mahama-led government.
“President Mahama is running a system based on Friends, Family, Brother And Children; FFBC government,” Ahiagbah stated. “The NDC accused President Akufo-Addo of running a family and friends government, but what they’re doing now is even worse.”
He further claimed that President Mahama’s inner circle is filled with loyalists, including individuals he referred to as “sons and daughters,” implying both personal and political closeness. As a result, Ahiagbah said, it would be difficult if not impossible for the President to discipline or reprimand any of them, even in the event of misconduct.
“There’s no way he would hold them accountable if they violate the code of conduct….,” Ahiagbah alleged.
Mahama On Stabilising Ghana’s Economy
President John Mahama has expressed optimism about Ghana’s economic outlook, stating that recent government efforts to stabilise the economy are beginning to show positive results.
Speaking at a durbar held at the Wa Jubilee Park on Thursday, May 15, as part of his thank-you tour of the Upper West Region, President Mahama cited the strengthening of the local currency and a gradual decline in the prices of goods and services as signs of economic improvement.
“I’m happy to report that our efforts to stabilise the economy have begun to yield results. This is evident in the improved performance of our local currency and the gradual reduction in prices of goods and services in the market,” he said.
President Mahama applauded the Minister of Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, and the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Asiama, for playing a major role in the economic turnaround.
