Mahama’s few months in office have exposed the lies he told to win power – Bawumia

Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has claimed that the lies and deception used by the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to win the support of Ghanaians ahead of the December 7 general elections have now been exposed.

According to him, the performance of the current government in their first four months has clearly shown their lack of competence.

Dr. Bawumia, who was the 2024 presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), believes this situation gives the NPP a strong chance to return to power in the 2028 general elections.

He has therefore urged members of the NPP to come together and work in unity to ensure the party’s victory in 2028.

Dr. Bawumia made these comments while addressing party executives and supporters at Techiman during his ‘Thank You Tour’ in the Bono East Region.

He stated that even though President Akufo-Addo’s administration performed well, the NDC won over voters by promising better living standards. However, he added, it has now become clear that those promises are not being fulfilled.

He said, “Is it not surprising that the NDC’s much-touted 24-hour economy, which caught the attention of most voters, did not even appear in their 2025 budget, and they no longer mention it?” The NDC has obviously deceived Ghanaians with sweet promises, and therefore, the masses are already calling for the NPP’s comeback.

Dr. Bawumia, speaking on behalf of the NPP leadership and former government officials, apologised to party supporters and Ghanaians for any mistakes made while in office. He promised that such errors would not be repeated if they are given another chance, and called for unity to help build a stronger party to reclaim power in 2028.

He added, “Have the costs of goods and services decreased? Has the price of cement dropped? Have electricity bills been reduced? They deceived us. They promised to increase the price of cocoa to Ghc7,000 per bag but failed to do so. They also promised to stop galamsey, but the issue has escalated. The government promised to implement the 24-hour economic policy, but has this policy been realized? They erected large billboards promoting the policy, yet it was omitted from their first budget. They have deceived Ghanaians.

“On behalf of the party, I am extending an apology. We are appealing to you all to forgive us for any wrongdoing. This incident will not recur. The party is well-positioned to win the 2028 general elections. We have learnt from our mistakes and will adopt a different approach. Should we emerge victorious, we will unveil novel policies. I am confident that 2028 will be a victorious year for our party. We anticipate returning to the office in 2028.”
