Muslim students to get special scholarship program for medicine, law, ICT – Mahama
President John Mahama has announced a new plan to support Muslim youth who want to go to university, as Muslims in Ghana and around the world celebrate Eid ul-Adha today, June 6, 2025.
He has asked the Director-General of the Scholarship Secretariat to create a special support programme for Muslim students who want to study medicine, law, ICT, and engineering.
The announcement was made during Eid ul-Adha prayers at the forecourt of the State House in Accra. Many dignitaries and Muslims attended the event.
A video shared on GHOne TV’s X page showed President Mahama, neatly dressed, speaking to the crowd.
He spoke about the importance of education and said the government wants to give all groups in the country equal chances to succeed.
“This initiative is to empower all segments of the population to propel national development,” he said.
The scholarship plan aims to fix old inequalities and help Muslim students do well in key areas that support the country’s growth.
The Muslim community warmly welcomed the news and thanked the President for the support, especially on such a special day.
Also present at the event were the National Chief Imam, Sheik Nuhu Sharabutu; former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia; former Second Lady Samira Bawumia; and other government officials.
