My 4.7 million votes, was it only Muslims who voted for me? It’s not possible – Bawumia
Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has warned party members and supporters against introducing religious and tribal sentiments into party discussions, calling such actions divisive and harmful.

Speaking at the NPP Constituency Chairmen Caucus Conference in the Ashanti Region on Saturday, June 21, 2025, the party’s 2024 presidential candidate urged members to stick to the NPP’s tradition of unity and inclusivity.
He stressed the importance of avoiding misinformation and tactics that could divide the party.
Dr. Bawumia reminded members that the NPP comprises people from all religious and ethnic backgrounds and said political gains should not come at the expense of unity.
He pointed to the Oquaye Committee Report, saying it showed that religion and tribe did not influence the 2024 elections.
Dr. Bawumia said his 4.7 million votes came from a diverse group of voters and not just Muslims, adding that religion was not used as an excuse when former presidents Kufuor and Akufo-Addo lost elections.
He further stated that if religion had truly been a barrier within the NPP, he would not have run for flagbearer.
His comments come after recent remarks by Nhyiaeso MP Dr. Stephen Amoah, who allegedly claimed that Christians would not vote for a Muslim president.
