NDC is doing everything right – Kennedy Agyapong
Former Member of Parliament for Assin Central and one-time New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Ohene Agyapong, has strongly advised the NPP to put an end to the internal confusion and unnecessary politicking within the party. He says if the party wants to return to power in the 2028 general elections, the only solution is unity.
Speaking to journalists at the forecourt of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, Kennedy Agyapong didn’t mince words. He openly expressed disappointment in the way some party members are behaving at a time when the NPP should be standing together to defend one of their own — Chairman Wontumi.

“This Is Not the Time for Divisions”
“I am very disappointed,” Kennedy said. “I watched two videos — one by Alex Tetteh, and another by a former Fomena NPP Chairman — and I was shocked. This is not the time to bring up your personal problems or try to destroy others in the party. When we have issues like this, we should present a united front.”
Kennedy Agyapong stressed that loyalty to the party must be bigger than any personal agenda. According to him, what the NPP needs right now is not accusations or internal sabotage, but solidarity, especially as the party goes through a challenging period following the arrest of Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
“If the NPP wants to win power, it must do so through unity,” he repeated. “This is not the time to settle old scores or dig up internal issues. We need to show Ghanaians that we are one strong team.”
NDC Shows Unity, NPP Must Learn from Them
Kennedy went on to compare the NPP to its political opponent, the National Democratic Congress (NDC). According to him, the NDC, despite their own issues, always rallies behind their members in times of trouble.
“Look at the NDC. Anytime Ato Forson goes to court, all the NDC MPs wear red in solidarity. They go to the court together. And yet, after that, they still appear in Parliament, united. That is real party loyalty,” he said.
“But when you come to NPP, it’s a different story. Instead of coming together, we’re fighting each other. It’s like everyone is for himself. If we continue like this, we will be in opposition for a long time.”
Kennedy’s comments received cheers and agreement from some of the party foot soldiers who had gathered at EOCO in support of Wontumi. Many of them nodded in agreement, saying the party indeed needs “a voice like Ken’s” to speak the truth.
The Viral Video That Sparked Tensions
The background to Kennedy Agyapong’s comments is a recent viral video that has stirred major tension within the party. In the video, Alex Kwaku Tetteh, a known NPP member and a former supporter of Kennedy Agyapong during the flagbearer race, boldly claimed that he gave authorities key information that led to the arrest of Chairman Wontumi.
Alex, who was once close to Wontumi but later fell out with him, said he felt it was his “duty” to expose corruption. He even claimed to have handed over documents and testimonies to support the investigations.
His confession has divided the party further — with some NPP members praising him for “defending the rule of law,” while others say he has betrayed the party by attacking its own during a time of crisis.
Kennedy Agyapong did not hide his anger about the video. “Why would an NPP member go out there and say he gave information to get his own chairman arrested? What do you gain from that? That is betrayal, and it will destroy our chances in 2028,” he said.
Let’s Not Lose the Bigger Picture – 2028 Is at Stake
Kennedy Agyapong reminded the party that the next general elections in 2028 will not be easy. According to him, the NDC will not sit back and watch the NPP return to power unless the NPP proves it is strong, united, and ready to serve Ghanaians better.
“2024 is already gone. We lost. Now, we must focus on the next battle. 2028 is just around the corner, and we don’t have time for internal fights. If we continue like this, we’re just helping the NDC to stay in power longer,” he said.
Kennedy advised the national leadership of the party, including the National Chairman, General Secretary, and regional executives, to step in and calm the rising tension. “The silence from some of our leaders is making things worse,” he warned.
Chairman Wontumi’s Arrest – A Test for NPP Loyalty
Chairman Wontumi’s arrest has become a major test of party discipline and loyalty. Many believe the arrest was politically motivated, especially since it came just months after the NDC government took over.
Wontumi, known for his loud and bold style, has always been a strong pillar in the Ashanti Region — the NPP’s stronghold. So his arrest has raised eyebrows and caused frustration among NPP grassroots supporters.
When Kennedy Agyapong was asked about the arrest, he didn’t give much detail but insisted that the party must protect its own, especially when there’s no clear evidence yet. “Let the law work, but don’t use the law to destroy your enemies within. That is not justice,” he said.
Final Words: Enough of the Backbiting — Let’s Rebuild Together
In wrapping up his speech, Kennedy Agyapong sent a strong message to all NPP members across the country — from national officers to polling station executives and even party communicators on radio and social media.
“Let’s stop the backbiting. Let’s stop the lies. Let’s stop the betrayals. We have only one enemy now — and it’s not ourselves. If we really want to win 2028, we must forgive, unite, and focus on the mission.”
“You may not like Chairman Wontumi. That’s fine. But when the party is under attack, we defend it — no matter what.”
He encouraged the youth in the party to learn from the mistakes of the past and focus on building bridges, not breaking them. “We are not just building a party; we are building a future for Ghana. Let’s act like it,” he concluded.
Conclusion
Kennedy Agyapong’s message is loud and clear: NPP must rise above internal division and focus on unity if they want to win back the trust of Ghanaians. With Chairman Wontumi’s arrest creating tension in the party’s stronghold and a growing sense of frustration among supporters, now is the time for leadership, not petty politics.
As Ghanaians continue to watch how the NPP handles this storm, one thing is clear — the journey to 2028 has already begun, and only a united NPP can stand a chance at returning to power.
