NPP internal conflicts: I Pity them – Opanyin Agyekum
Prof. Kofi Agyekum, widely known as Opanyin Agyekum, has urged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to resolve its internal conflicts.
The party has announced January 31, 2026, as the date for its presidential primary.
Among the aspirants are former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, former Agriculture Minister Bryan Acheampong, and former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum.
The new date has sparked controversy within the party, with some members opposing the timing of the primary.
Some of these dissenters believe the date is rushed and question why the election should be held so early.
Others argue that party leaders should have waited for the internal tensions to cool down before scheduling the primary.
Speaking on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show, Opanyin Agyekum expressed support for those urging the party to prioritize peace.
He used a proverb to advise the NPP to focus on unity above all.
“When I look at the New Patriotic Party, I sometimes pity them,” he said, calling on members to avoid actions that could worsen divisions in the party.
