NPP National Chairman suffering from cognitive dissonance and mental incapacitation
The family of Stephen Ayensu Ntim, National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called for his immediate temporary withdrawal from all party duties, citing serious health concerns.
In a letter dated June 16, 2025, and addressed to the Chairman of the NPP Council of Elders, the Ntim family expressed deep worry over Mr. Ntim’s declining health. They noted that the party chairman is currently battling a condition that includes “cognitive dissonance and mental incapacitation,” making it unsafe and unwise for him to continue active political work at this time.
The letter, signed by key family members including Kingsley Oteng (Family Head), Adelaide Ntim (MP), and other close relatives, urged the NPP to allow Mr. Ntim to step back from party activities immediately. They stressed that his current state of health demands both urgent medical attention and absolute rest.
They also expressed strong opposition to Mr. Ntim’s planned participation in a major NPP meeting at Alisa Hotel on June 17, which he is expected to chair. According to the family, his involvement in such an event in his present condition could further harm his health and infringe upon his personal rights.
“Common sense dictates that Steve, as a matter of urgency, be temporarily excused, not only from the rigours of active politics but from intra-party activities in order to make way for needed peace and solace and for concentration on the ongoing required medical treatment process,” the letter stated.
The family reminded the party of Mr. Ntim’s long-standing service and sacrifice, from his time as First National Deputy Chairman to becoming the current National Chairman. While they did not specify the exact nature of his condition, the language used suggests a serious mental or neurological concern.
They concluded by appealing to the NPP leadership and Council of Elders to act in Mr. Ntim’s best interest by granting him the time and space to focus on his recovery. They also hinted that discussions about his future role in the party would be considered after his health has improved.
