Patient stranded as OPD services halted at Korle Bu over nurses and midwives strike

Healthcare services at the Outpatient Department (OPD) of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital have come to a standstill as the strike by the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) entered its third day.

The industrial action, sparked by the government’s delay in implementing improved conditions of service previously agreed upon, has left many patients stranded, with nurses and midwives withdrawing their services across the facility.

Speaking on JoyNews’ The Pulse, GRNMA Secretary David Tenkorang stated that the association will not return to the negotiation table until the fully negotiated and signed agreement is implemented.

“We have had enough patience with this administration. They must turn their attention to our demands. These are not elastic demands, they are inelastic. They can be met easily. I don’t see why this should be dragged out,” he said, stressing that the association’s expectations are neither excessive nor unreasonable.
