PHOTOS: ECG cuts power to GBC over GHC3.1m debt
The Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) has been disconnected from the national power grid by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) due to an outstanding debt of GH₵3,153,484.98.
The disconnection took place on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, as part of ECG’s intensified nationwide debt recovery campaign targeting heavily indebted institutions and companies.
Earlier that same day, ECG also cut off power to Ghana Water Limited (GWL), which reportedly owes close to GH₵1 billion. The power distributor has since issued a 48-hour ultimatum to GWL to clear its debt or face prolonged disconnection from its main pumping stations, which are vital for distributing water across the country.
Other major institutions at risk of disconnection include Lancaster Hotel and African Regent Hotel, as ECG pushes to recover millions of cedis in unpaid electricity bills.
