Police Officer faces court over alleged robbery in Berekum

A police officer and two civilians have been arraigned before the Berekum Circuit Court for their alleged involvement in an armed robbery incident in the Bono Region.

The officer, identified as 26-year-old Lance Corporal Owusu Asante, stationed at Techiman Tanoso, is accused of conspiring with Wilson Osei Danquah, a boutique owner from Kumasi, and Muftawu Salusu, a fuel station attendant, to commit the crime.

According to the prosecution, led by Chief Inspector John Kwakye Brobbey, the three suspects stormed the home of one Ajara Kramo at Amangoase, a suburb of Berekum, on June 15, 2025.

Ms. Kramo is reportedly under suspicion for engaging in narcotics-related activities.

The suspects allegedly threatened her with a fake pistol and fled with an undisclosed amount of money.

In addition to robbery and conspiracy charges, they are also being charged with unlawful possession of illicit drugs.

The court has ordered that the suspects be remanded into police custody to aid in ongoing investigations.

The case is expected to continue on July 2, 2025.
