Police reveals number of stolen state vehicles retrieved from former GIHOC MD
The Ghana Police Service has officially confirmed the arrest of Mr. Maxwell Kofi Jumah, the former Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries Company Limited, following a court-approved arrest warrant.
His arrest took place on Sunday, June 29, and was made public during a press conference addressed by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Lydia Yaako Donkor.
DCOP Donkor explained that the arrest was based on a petition submitted by the management of GIHOC Distilleries, alleging that Mr. Jumah had stolen vehicles belonging to the company.
“A story in the media about the arrest of Mr. Maxwell Kofi Jumah, yes, that is accurate. Mr. Maxwell Kofi Jumah was arrested based on a complaint or a petition that was submitted to us by GIHOC Distilleries Company Limited,” she confirmed.
She further revealed that three of the missing vehicles had already been retrieved as part of the ongoing investigation.
“We received the petition to the effect that some vehicles, which were the property of that company, have been stolen by the said Maxwell Kofi Jumah. He is in our custody at the CID headquarters, and he is assisting in an investigation. As of this afternoon, we have retrieved three vehicles—the said vehicles that were stolen by him,” she said.
Mr. Jumah is currently being held at the CID headquarters and is cooperating with investigators.
This development comes at a time when public attention is increasingly focused on the management of state-owned enterprises, with growing calls for transparency, accountability, and responsible stewardship of public assets.
