Rushing to elect a presidential candidate is a mistake – Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe
Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, a founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has criticised the party’s decision to choose a presidential candidate before reorganising its internal leadership structures. He described the move as unconstitutional and strategically unsound.
He argued that selecting a flagbearer before electing new national, regional, constituency, and polling station executives goes against the procedures in the NPP’s constitution. Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe warned that ignoring these rules shows weak leadership and internal confusion.
“In a party that has just lost a major election, it is critical to conduct a thorough analysis of what went wrong. Rushing to elect a presidential candidate without honest reflection is a mistake,” he said. “This process appears to be skewed in favour of a particular individual, ignoring genuine concerns raised by notable party figures.”
He also questioned the credibility of the current leadership, blaming them for the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections. He believes they do not have the moral right to lead such a crucial reorganisation.
“The leadership that led the party into defeat cannot be trusted to conduct a credible process that aims at returning the party to power in 2028,” he stated. “We need a transparent, inclusive approach that strictly adheres to the party’s constitution if we are serious about rebuilding the NPP.”
