Savannah Regional Minister defrauded
Two young men from Nalerigu in the North East Region have been arrested by the Savannah Regional Police Command for allegedly defrauding the Savannah Regional Minister, Hon. Biawurbi Salisu, by pretending to be the overlord of the Mamprugu Traditional Area, Nayiri Mahami Abdulai Sherigah.
According to police sources, the suspects devised a scheme where they impersonated the Nayiri by mimicking his voice during a phone conversation with the minister. During the call, they requested assistance, claiming it was a royal appeal.
Believing the request to be genuine, the minister responded positively. Spear FM reported that he welcomed the suspects to Damongo and even financed their trip to Accra, including paying for their accommodation, under the impression that they were part of an official delegation.
However, their cover was blown when they attempted to present a strange mixture they claimed was meant to “fortify” the minister. This unusual act raised suspicions and led the minister to alert security officials, who quickly moved in and arrested the suspects.
Initial investigations indicate that this is not the first time the two have used the Nayiri’s name to deceive prominent individuals for their personal benefit. The police have since begun a full investigation, and the suspects are expected to face criminal charges.
Authorities are advising the public—particularly government officials and traditional authorities—to be cautious and ensure that they verify the identities of anyone making requests or claims on behalf of respected figures.
