She has been ineffective, she is not active – Maurice Ampaw drags Jane Naa

Private legal practitioner Maurice Ampaw has claimed that First Lady Lordina Mahama holds more influence in the NDC government than Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang.

His comments follow a recent call by Akosua Manu, a former Deputy Director at the Office of the former First Lady, urging Vice President Opoku-Agyemang to intervene in efforts to remove Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo from office.

In an interview with GhanaWeb on June 21, 2025, Maurice Ampaw dismissed the idea of the vice president stepping in.

He argued that the issue is politically motivated and beyond the vice president’s influence, suggesting that Lordina Mahama or Ibrahim Mahama would be more effective in handling the situation.

“No, the Vice President cannot handle it. You know, it is a political agenda and she has been ineffective. Look at her performance, she is not active. It is a party manifesto promise, so Jane Naana cannot do anything about it. If anything, I think that Mahama’s wife (Lordina Mahama) can better assist in this matter.

“There are only two people who can change the course of this action; Mahama’s wife Lordina Mahama or Ibrahim Mahama,” he said.

He also alleged that after the removal of Chief Justice Torkornoo, the NDC would target Electoral Commission Chairperson Jean Mensah.
