Somé Senior High School’s assistant headmistress and cook, along with the matron and bursar, have been arrested in connection with an alleged food theft ring at the school, according to citinewsroom.com.
This brings the total number of arrests to four as the investigation into the theft of student-appropriate food items continues.
The first arrests occurred on Friday evening, May 24, when alumni and an assembly member searched the bursar and matron as they were leaving the school grounds. Food was found in a bag and the trunk of a car.
Following these arrests, the assistant headmistress was also detained by police for further questioning.
The confiscated items, including tin tomatoes, mackerel, cleaning agents, and insecticide spray, among other supplies, were found in the matron’s possession.
“This has been going on for a long time, and this arrest will bring some change,” said Byron Kwakutsey Kpeli, the Senior House Master, in an interview with Citi News.
“There are mixed feelings in the school following the arrests. The police have been to the school to conduct investigations, and the storekeeper has been invited for questioning.”
The four suspects are scheduled to be arraigned on Monday, May 27, 2024.
