Video of Yaa Baby flaunting the gun which was used to kill her by her boyfriend surfaces

Popular Ghanaian social media personality Hayford Boateng, widely known as GH Kobby, has been arrested following the tragic shooting of his girlfriend, Philipa Yaa Baby, also known as Shuga.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, in Seker, a community in Yeji, the capital of the Pru East District in the Bono East Region. GH Kobby and two others—Kojo Emmanuel and Michael Kabutey—were taken into police custody shortly after the incident.

According to early police reports and eyewitness accounts, GH Kobby allegedly took a gun from his luxury car to fire warning shots into the air. However, the firearm discharged and struck Philipa in the left arm.

She was quickly rushed to St. Martin’s Hospital in Yeji but sadly died from her injuries shortly after arriving at the facility.

The group had reportedly been in Yeji after attending the final funeral rites of the late Mamponghene, Daasebre Osei Bonsu II. The atmosphere turned from mourning to shock and sorrow following the shooting.

A video has since resurfaced on social media, showing the late Philipa Yaa Baby handling a firearm. Online users claim it might be the same gun involved in the shooting, though police have yet to confirm this.

The Ghana Police Service has launched a full investigation into the matter. As of Wednesday morning, all three suspects remain in custody. Authorities are trying to establish whether the shooting was a tragic accident or involved negligence or misconduct.

Meanwhile, news of Philipa’s death has triggered widespread grief online, with many expressing sorrow over the loss of the young social media star.

There have also been growing calls for stricter responsibility around gun handling, especially by public figures and influencers.
