Watch as the trending video of President Mahama throwing uppercut at Anthony Joshua
British boxing star Anthony Joshua’s visit to Ghana took a fun and lighthearted turn on Monday, June 16, 2025, when President John Dramani Mahama jokingly aimed an uppercut at him during a courtesy call at the Jubilee House.
Joshua, who arrived in Ghana on Friday, June 13, for the much-publicised “Battle of the Beasts” boxing event, has been engaging fans and making high-profile appearances across Accra.
At the Jubilee House, he was warmly received by President Mahama, along with the Minister for Youth and Sports, Kofi Adams.
Also in attendance were Ghana’s boxing legend Azumah Nelson and Sharaf Mahama — President Mahama’s son and the organiser of the “Battle of the Beasts” — who was instrumental in bringing both Anthony Joshua and Amir Khan to Ghana.
During the visit, Joshua presented a signed boxing glove to the president. When President Mahama put it on, he playfully threw an uppercut toward Joshua, drawing laughter from everyone in the room.
The funny moment was captured in photos and videos that have since gone viral on social media, with many Ghanaians praising the friendly exchange.
The group later posed for pictures, with Azumah Nelson standing between Anthony Joshua and President Mahama.
Sharaf Mahama and Minister Kofi Adams later joined in for more photos, rounding off a memorable visit that highlighted the strong link between sports, leadership, and national pride.
