Update on 2024 Nurses and Midwives recruitment

The ministry of Health has given an update on the recruitment of nurses and midwives in 2024. According to the ministry, it will meet with the Ministry of Finance on Monday, March 11.

The aim of his meeting is to accelerate the process of granting financial clearance and recruitment for unemployed nurses. This initiative stems from the dissatisfaction expressed by the Coalition of Nurses and Midwives in the Northern Region toward the government, MoH, and MoF.

The coalition has articulated its discontent regarding the perceived lack of action by these bodies in granting financial clearance and ensuring permanent employment for more than 75,000 graduate nurses and midwives trained across various accredited public universities and training colleges.

Isaac Baah Ofei, the Public Relations Officer of the Health Ministry, emphasized the need for patience from the group during an interview with Citi News.

“The Ministry has recruited a significant number of nurses and has accumulated a backlog. We require clearance from medical doctors and dentists who have completed their training, so we have been working diligently to address these issues.”

He further stated, “Chief Director, Alhaji Hafiz, has called for an urgent meeting between the Ministry and the Ministry of Finance to explore ways to expedite this process. Although the meeting was initially planned for later this week, we are hopeful to convene as early as Monday to chart a path forward.”

This development underscores the concerted efforts of the involved ministries to address the concerns raised by nurses and midwives and to streamline the recruitment process for the benefit of the healthcare sector.
