President John Dramani Mahama shared a moment of mutual respect and camaraderie with the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, during the traditional burial rites of the late Mamponghene, Daasebre Osei Bonsu II.
A viral video on X captured a brief and respectful exchange between the two during the Dɔte Yie on Monday, June 9, 2025.
The funeral began on Friday, June 7, 2025, with the widowhood rite, known as Adwaredeɛ, where articles were presented on behalf of the Omanhene’s widow, Oheneyere Gyimah Kesse, to the Bretuo Royal Family.
The first two days of Dɔte Yie saw top political leaders, including former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, and traditional rulers across the country, paying their final respects to the late occupant of the Silver Stool.
Daasebre Osei Bonsu, born on December 31, 1939, died at age 86 after ruling as Mamponghene for 26 years. His passing marked the end of a respected chapter in the Asante traditional hierarchy.
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, attended the final day of the rites to honour the memory of the late Silver Stool occupant.
