Watch what happened when Wontumi visited NPP head office after his release
The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako—widely known as Chairman Wontumi—made a striking and energetic return to the party’s national headquarters in Accra on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, just one day after being released from detention.
His release came after he fulfilled the bail conditions set by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO). Wontumi had spent a week in EOCO’s custody over allegations involving fraud and money laundering.
When he arrived at the NPP headquarters, Wontumi was met with loud cheers and dancing from a crowd of supporters. Many party members and grassroots loyalists had gathered to show their support for the embattled regional chairman. The excitement was evident, as people waved party flags and sang party songs in celebration of his release.
In a sharp contrast to his appearance on Monday, where he appeared physically unwell and limped out of custody, Chairman Wontumi showed up dressed in all-white clothing and full of energy. With a wide smile, he interacted warmly with his supporters and even went as far as lifting one leg in the air to demonstrate that he was doing fine health-wise—despite his noticeable limp the previous day.
