We did not endorse Ken Agyapong as NPP flagbearer – MCE drops BOMSHELL

Former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Adentan, Ebenezer Doku, has strongly refuted reports suggesting that 220 former Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) have thrown their support behind Kennedy Agyapong, a flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Addressing the media on Monday, June 23, 2025, Doku made it clear that while a meeting did take place between Kennedy Agyapong and the former MMDCEs, it did not amount to an endorsement of his candidacy.

“He called us; we didn’t go to Ken. He invited us to meet him, and he gave us his message. Other speakers also spoke at the meeting. He was cordial with us, we all met, wined, dined, and then left. There was no endorsement as is being claimed today,” Doku explained.

He further clarified that the silence of the group during the meeting should not be mistaken for approval or support.

“We did not tell him we would give him our support. The fact that we did not respond should tell you we have a candidate we are supporting,” he emphasised.

According to Doku, the majority of the former MMDCEs who served under the NPP between 2017 and 2024 have pledged their support to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Ghana’s immediate past Vice President.

Their backing, he noted, is a show of confidence in Dr. Bawumia’s leadership and a commitment to seeing him lead the party into the 2028 general elections.

This public declaration of support for Dr. Bawumia comes as the NPP gears up for its next presidential primaries, scheduled for January 31, 2026.
