We’re monitoring Bawumia and all aspirants in the race – Justin Kodua
The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua Frimpong, has revealed that the party’s leadership is working behind the scenes to manage rising tensions among presidential aspirants ahead of the January 2026 primaries.

Speaking in an interview with Channel One TV on Wednesday, June 18, Mr. Kodua addressed growing concerns about internal conflicts and verbal attacks between the camps of presidential hopefuls. He assured party members and the general public that, although leadership has not made public statements on every issue, significant efforts are ongoing to preserve unity.
“That’s why we continue to caution personalities in the party. There are so many behind-the-scenes discussions and meetings and activities that go on,” he said.
He added that many may not realise how often party leadership intervenes privately to discourage harmful statements and de-escalate tensions.
“You may not know the number of times that we have engaged certain personalities… how we’re able to prevent or even stop people from making certain comments and also how we’re even able to calm tempers in certain quarters,” Mr. Kodua explained.
Responding to criticisms that the party is not doing enough to enforce discipline, he insisted that the absence of public rebukes does not mean no action has been taken.
“The fact that I have not come out publicly to rebuke Mr. A or B doesn’t mean the party has not taken certain actions,” he stressed.
With the NPP set to hold its presidential primaries on January 31, 2026, several prominent figures have declared interest, creating a tense political atmosphere within the party. The leadership is now working to ensure a smooth and peaceful process leading to the selection of a flagbearer.
Mr. Kodua’s comments reflect the party’s commitment to managing internal challenges through dialogue and strategic engagement rather than public confrontation.
