Why is ‘NPP’ afraid of my boss? – Special Prosecutor’s spokesperson

The Director of Strategy, Research, and Communications at the Office of the Special Prosecutor, Sammy Darko, has defended the use of bulletproof vehicles by Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng.

Mr. Agyebeng is reported to be using a bulletproof car, a matter that has sparked public debate, with some critics arguing that he has not justified such high-level protection due to what they perceive as underperformance in office.

Responding to the criticism during an interview on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo show, Sammy Darko dismissed the concerns and strongly defended the need for the Special Prosecutor to have enhanced security.

“All security agencies, at least, use some bulletproof cars. We don’t say such things outside because things like this used by security agencies are not for public consumption. You can’t make everything concerning law enforcement public,” he explained.

He further questioned the motive behind the criticism, asking, “Why are people afraid of the OSP being protected?”

According to him, the nature of corruption investigations makes the Special Prosecutor a target, hence the need for strong security measures. He stressed that corruption is one of the hardest crimes to investigate and prosecute, and therefore, the Special Prosecutor must be adequately protected and well-resourced to carry out his duties effectively.
