Wontumi, EOCO saga: This investigation is not just EOCO, the FBI is also involved – NDC’s Beatrice Annan
Beatrice Annan, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) communications team, has raised serious concerns about the recent findings involving Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
During an appearance on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana on Monday, June 2, Annan expressed shock over the developments surrounding Wontumi’s case. She said the allegations were deeply troubling, highlighting the seriousness of the situation.
While discussing the matter, Annan took a moment to praise Wontumi’s lawyer, Andy Appiah Kubi. She described his handling of the issue as mature and thoughtful, noting that he seemed fully aware of the weight of the case.
“The things against Chairman Wontumi are so scary that if you look at Appiah Kubi’s demeanor, you can see that he is a wise lawyer,” she said.
“He knows what EOCO knows, he knows what facts the man has been confronted with.”
Annan went on to suggest that the anxiety currently being displayed by the NPP is a result of their fear of what might happen if investigations continue to uncover more information.
“The fear and the anxiety of the NPP is that if the NDC decides to do even half of what they did to the members of the NDC, half of them will not survive,” she said.
She further argued that the NPP’s internal challenges are being exposed through their reaction to the ongoing scandal. In her view, the ruling party lacks unity and is failing to support both its grassroots members and leadership.
“Ultimately, this shows that the NPP is very disorganized, they are not concerned about the welfare of their members, and even their party leadership,” she added.
Annan also revealed that the scope of the investigation into Wontumi’s activities goes beyond Ghanaian authorities. She stated that the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is also involved, which, in her opinion, makes the matter even more serious than it initially appears.
“This investigation is not just carried out by EOCO, the FBI is also involved, it is also murkier than you think,” she said.
