Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has expressed deep concern about the current state of his party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), describing it as troubling.

Speaking at the commissioning of the NPP’s Patriotic Institute on June 25, 2025, the former president asserted that the party’s current condition contributed to its defeat in the 2024 election.

He added that recent election outcomes demonstrate that Ghanaian voters are discerning and cannot be easily misled.

“How come a party with a philosophy and vision for humanity, that’s the main strength of our tradition, has been reduced to the current situation? A situation we all regret or must regret. How come?

“This didn’t happen by accident. If we carefully review the electoral history from 2016, 2020 to 2024, and if we are sincere with ourselves, we would recognise that the Ghanaian electorate has matured. Nobody can deceive them,” he said.

He emphasised that Ghanaians voted out the NPP not because of the party’s core values, but because of its current direction, suggesting that the party can return to power in the 2028 election if it re-aligns with its foundational principles.

“I assure you, I believe this electorate, the Ghanaian electorate, not just party supporters, has not rejected the value systems of our tradition,” he said.
