Young man sentenced to death

The High Court in Lafia, Nasarawa State, has sentenced Oluwatimileyin Ajayi to death by hanging for the brutal killing of Salome Adaidu, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member.

The verdict was delivered on Thursday by Justice Simon Aboki, who found Ajayi guilty of murdering and dismembering the young woman.

Justice Aboki explained that the prosecution successfully proved, beyond any reasonable doubt, that Ajayi committed the crime in his own house. He also rejected Ajayi’s defence, where he claimed he lost consciousness after spending time with his girlfriend and had no memory of writing a confession.

Following a lengthy trial that spanned several months, the court concluded that Ajayi was guilty.

Justice Aboki noted that the conviction was made under Section 221 of the Penal Code of Northern Nigeria, which mandates the death penalty for such crimes.

“The law is clear on this, and the punishment is death. Therefore, the accused is hereby sentenced to death by hanging,” Justice Aboki declared.
