On February 1, 2023, G/CPL Emmanuel Duah, 46, came before a Ho Circuit Court and entered a not-guilty plea to the defilement accusation that had been brought against him.
He is being prosecuted for allegedly defiling a class five student in the Akatsi North District Ave-Xevi on September 29, 2021, who has since become 14 years old.
According to starrfm.com.gh, the suspect allegedly committed the crime while on duty in a police station that has not yet been put into operation.
The accused, a police officer known as Bob Marley, asked the victim to go buy him some water when she was out fetching rainwater from a silver basin in front of the police station. The victim refused and insisted that she first go tell her parents before she could complete the errand for the accused.
“The prosecution also told the court that, G/CPL Emmanuel Duah in a caution statement taken at Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Tongu Division in Sogakope, when he was first arrested, admitted that ‘he held the hand and touched the breast of the victim’ but denied having sex with her.
“The prosecution has since filed the weighing card and a medical report of the tests conducted on the victim on the night of the incident in the case docket.
Upon taking a plea from the accused, the court granted him a GHS50,000 bail with two sureties; one of whom must be a public servant,” the news website reports.
Meanwhile, G/CPL Duah is expected to reappear in court on February 22, 2023, for the trial to continue.
The accused “removed the basin from her and violently held her hands, covered her mouth, led her into one of the rooms at the police station and forcibly had sexual intercourse with her,” according to the testimony given in court.
