“I’m really happy I could help the team” – Cucurella on his return from injury

Marc Cucurella has revealed he was “really happy” to help Chelsea on his return from injury against Newcastle.

The 25 year old has been out since suffering an ankle injury in December last year against Everton.

The former Brighton man returned to the starting XI on Monday night for his first appearance of the year and completed the full 90 minutes as the Blues secured a much needed 3-2 victory.

Cucurella has worked really hard to get himself back to fitness and his return is a timely boost for Mauricio Pochettino given that Ben Chilwell is set to spend another spell on the sidelines with a knee injury.

Speaking after Monday’s victory the left back revealed it had been a testing road back but was delighted to be able to help the team again.

Speaking to the club’s official website the Spaniard said: “It’s not easy when you’re a player and you’re out injured, it’s difficult.”

“I tried to work hard and put everything into my work. I had the opportunity to play and I’m really happy that I could help the team and stay on the pitch. Hopefully, it’s the first game of many.”

“I think the team played really well. We dominated the game, but we conceded two easy goals and I think we need to improve on this. We deserved the win and I’m very happy for the team.”

Cucurella will likely have another chance to impress against Leicester City in the FA Cup quarter final at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
