Pochettino tips Silva for a coaching career

Mauricio Pochettino believes Thiago Silva can learn what it takes to become a coach by being in a dressing room half his age.

The Brazilian turns 40 in September and has already started doing his UEFA B License as he begins to think about life after football.

Silva is widely expected to leave Stamford Bridge at the end of the season when his contract expires having joined on a free transfer from French giants Paris Saint Germain in 2020.

It’s not been an easy season for the veteran defender and his wife caused controversy by tweeting that there needed to be “change” at Chelsea.

However despite the difficulties Pochettino believes Silva is getting a lot out of this season and can learn a lot about coaching by being around such a young squad.

In quotes picked up by The Standard the 52 year old said: “No, it is a good experience for him, and the kids also. If he wants to be a coach, he is experiencing a very good time.”

The Argentine also explained why Silva had been on the bench for the last few matches.

He said: “He got injured against Palace, then after when he was available to play, Trevoh Chalobah was performing well.”

“Only we need to choose and before it was [Axel] Disasi and Levi [Colwill] and now he is injured. Even for Levi, if he comes back tomorrow, I could decide to play with Chalobah because he is playing well.”
