“He’s really good one vs. one” – Young striker on the Chelsea defender he wants to learn from

Ben Chilwell is known primarily as an attacking full back, or a wing back.

At the start of the season, Mauricio Pochettino even used him as a left winger – not without controversy from fans who didn’t like that setup.

But he’s got great defensive quality too. He’s strong and fast enough to compete with the best, and he’s one of the fittest players around.

One player who is starting to come up against him regularly in training is Dujuan Richards, who is training with the first team more and more having joined the club in the winter. In an interview on the club’s 5th Stand App, he picked out Chilwell’s one on one ability as something he really admitted:

“I’d take Ben Chilwell’s defensive ability. He’s really good in one-versus-one situations,” the youngster admitted.

Richards is one of the most raw talents we’ve seen in recent years – he has all the tools but still a lot of learning to do. If he keeps absorbing from teammates like Chilwell, there’s no telling how far he can go.
