Pochettino delivers five word answer when asked if he would quit as manager

Mauricio Pochettino has come out fighting and vowed to “never” quit as Chelsea manager.

Pochettino is under increased pressure at Stamford Bridge following a disappointing campaign which sees the Blues in the bottom half of the table with as many defeats as wins in the league.

The away fans chanted against the Argentine last time out against Brentford and also sung the name of former manager Jose Mourinho.

It’s safe to say the 52 year old is not a popular figure amongst Chelsea fans with many wanting him replaced as manager.

When asked if he had considered quitting as manager Pochettino issued a five word response to The Standard: “No, no, no. Why? Never.”

The plan has always been to sit down and assess his future at the end of the season which would represent the half way stage of the two year contract he signed last summer.

However, if results don’t improve that could easily change and there have already been reports claiming Chelsea have begun sounding out possible replacements with Ruben Amorim and Roberto De Zerbi two names heavily linked if the Blues were to make a change.

Tonight is a huge night for Pochettino with Newcastle coming to Stamford Bridge in what is a crunch game for Chelsea’s chances of qualifying for European football next season.

A defeat would see the noise against him reach new levels and really test the owners resolve.
